Good-Bye, Goldie Louie Earnhart

It happened........Lexi's goldfish we bought her over a year ago died. We took her to camp again this year (she was a well traveled goldfish) and I feed her Friday morning but when we returned to our cabin to change clothes after the banquet I noticed she was belly-up (literally). I obviously didn't point it out to the girls since we still had other activities to get through for the evening and I had no idea how they would react. So, Saturday morning I broke the news as soon as we woke up. There were tears for about one minute and then I suggested that we take her body and put it in the creek and they got a little excited (weird, I know).
Lexi suggested that we use the rest of Goldie's food and feed the other fish in the creek. I thought that was a good idea.
Walking back up from the creek here was the conversation:
Lexi: Now I want a new pet. I think this time I want a pet in a cage. (Eyes widen) A bunny, that would be a great pet. I am gonna get a bunny next.
Gracie: Oh yea a bunny! (fall down) I am tired of falling, it hurts!! I don't want to fall any more!
Me: Are you OK? And we are NOT getting a bunny.

Megan would LOVE for you to get a bunny, or maybe even a guinea pig... she would like either one and if YOU get it then we don't have to worry about her brother, dad or grandpa going into anephalactic shock!!! Plus, I wouldn't have to clean the cage.... Love ya, Aim

haha! Do NOT get a bunny! I heard they are the worst pets EVER! They stink and don't do anything. Maybe she'll go for another fish? :) And I just know my Gracie will be the "Grace" falling down all of the time too... I was the same way, and I had 2nd thoughts about naming her Grace because of this, but oh well!

Emma's fish died recently as well. Of course, I did not tell her right away (I waited for her to notice, which actually took a couple of weeks) When she finally asked where Fishey was I told her he went to Heaven to be with Arnie (my parent's dog who died a while back). She cried and cried and then asked for a turtle. The funny thing is that she never paid a bit of attention to that fish (which is why it took her two weeks to notice he was gone) Who had to take care of him??? That's right, ME! I am NOT taking care of a turtle!!!
Someone was talking a couple of weeks ago about dying and going to heaven. Her eyes got wide, she started bawling and said "but Fishey didn't die" she was devastated. Now all she talks about is people dying and going to Heaven. In fact, she informed me today that she wouldn't be sad if I died and went to HEaven...she would just get a new, pretend mommy!

We were at Pet Smart tonight and couldn't pry Tucker away from the fish. Now mind you, I HATE taking care of fish...but somehow I can see one in our future. Maybe we should make a fishy graveyard down at Neo-O-Tez!
